Effective Date: February 28, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how CodeKind ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Recipe Corner mobile application ("the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. Recipe Corner is designed with a privacy-first approach:
- No account required. You do not need to create an account or provide any personal details to use Recipe Corner.
- No analytics or tracking. We do not use any third-party analytics services, advertising SDKs, or tracking frameworks.
- No server-side storage. We do not operate servers that receive or store your recipe data.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
All data created within Recipe Corner is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:
- Recipes you have saved (names, ingredients, instructions, images, source URLs).
- Shopping cart items.
- App preferences and settings (e.g., default serving size, image cache preferences).
This data never leaves your device except through iCloud Sync (see below) or when you explicitly choose to share a recipe.
3. iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, Recipe Corner uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your recipe collection across your Apple devices. This sync is:
- Managed entirely by Apple. Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, which is protected by your Apple ID credentials and Apple's security infrastructure.
- Not accessible to us. We cannot read, access, or retrieve your synced data. It exists only in your private iCloud container.
- Optional. If you disable iCloud for Recipe Corner in your device settings, your data stays local to that device only.
For more information about how Apple handles iCloud data, see Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. Web Requests (Discover & Import)
When you use the Discover feature to search for recipes, Recipe Corner makes web requests to find and retrieve recipe pages:
- Search queries are sent to DuckDuckGo to find relevant recipe pages. These queries are subject to DuckDuckGo's Privacy Policy.
- Recipe page fetches — when you select a search result or paste a URL, the app downloads the web page directly to extract structured recipe data (JSON-LD). This is a direct connection between your device and the recipe website.
- Image downloads — recipe images are downloaded from their original hosting servers and cached locally on your device.
We do not proxy, log, or intercept any of these requests. They go directly from your device to the relevant web server.
5. Recipe Sharing
When you share a recipe using the Share feature:
- A share card image and text summary are generated locally on your device.
- A link is created that encodes the recipe data in the URL fragment (the part after the
#). This data is never sent to our servers — the URL fragment is processed entirely in the recipient's browser or app. - The sharing mechanism uses the standard iOS share sheet, and the data goes only to the destination you choose (e.g., Messages, Mail, AirDrop).
6. Children's Privacy
Recipe Corner does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13 — or from anyone of any age. Because we do not collect personal data, the app is suitable for users of all ages.
7. Third-Party Services
Recipe Corner does not integrate any third-party services that collect user data. Specifically:
- No advertising networks.
- No analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel).
- No social media SDKs.
- No crash reporting services that collect personal data.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
Since all data is stored on your device (and optionally in your iCloud account):
- Deleting recipes within the app removes them from your device and, if iCloud Sync is enabled, from your iCloud storage.
- Using "Clear All Recipes" in Settings permanently removes your entire collection.
- Uninstalling the app removes all local data. iCloud data can be managed through your device's iCloud settings.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
